Number of Employees in Industry Decreased by 0.2 Percent, Mainly in Energy Production

The number of employed persons in the industry in January decreased by one percent compared to the previous month, and by 0.2 percent compared to January 2017, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.

According to the main industrial groupings, in January compared to the previous month, the number of employed persons in energy production decreased by 3.6 percent, in the production of non-durable goods for general consumption by 1.5 percent, in the production of capital goods by 0.7 percent, and in the production of intermediate goods by 0.1 percent.

At the same time, in the production of durable goods for general consumption, the number of employed persons increased by 0.7 percent.

Year-on-year comparison shows that in January, compared to the same month last year, the number of employees in the production of intermediate goods increased by 3.3 percent. At the same time, the number of employees in the production of capital goods fell by 0.8 percent, in the production of non-durable goods for general consumption by 0.9 percent, in energy production by 8.2 percent, and in the production of durable goods for general consumption by 1.7 percent.

Comparison according to the national classification of activities shows that the number of employees in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning decreased by 4.4 percent on a monthly basis, in the manufacturing industry by 0.8 percent, and in mining and quarrying by 1.4 percent.

On an annual basis, the number of employed persons in January in the manufacturing industry is higher by 0.5 percent, while in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning it is lower by 9.4 percent and in mining and quarrying by 0.6 percent.

Overall labor productivity in the industry in January is higher by 3.3 percent compared to the same month last year. Meanwhile, in the manufacturing industry, it increased by 6.6 percent, while in mining and quarrying it decreased by 0.2 percent and in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning by 4.7 percent, according to DZS data.
