The Future of Mobility is Green: FlixBus First in the World to Start Testing E-Bus on Longer Distances

FlixBus, the European leader in passenger transport, is investing in E-Mobility as the first company in the world to start testing E-Buses (electric buses) on long distances. In early April, the first electric Flix-E-Bus will begin test drives in France on the route from Paris to Amiens. The second Flix-E-Bus will operate in the summer months from Hesse to Baden-Württemberg as part of the expansion of the German domestic network during the tourist season.

Although the purchase price of E-Buses is currently much higher, we are convinced that this investment will be a valuable and profitable investment in the long run for both the development of the company and for our users and the environment, said André Schwämmlein, founder and CEO of FlixBus.

– As service providers, we are announcing a kind of turning point in the world of mobility. Likewise, the first E-Bus on longer distances sends a message to bus manufacturers to invest and start developing alternatives to clean diesel vehicles. Sustainable mobility is not only related to driving or passenger transport but also to the social and ecological aspects of travel, André added.

FlixBus offers everyone the opportunity to travel sustainably

Traveling by bus is one of the most environmentally friendly ways of transporting passengers, made possible by a modern fleet and the ability to transport a larger number of passengers within a single vehicle. Passengers who choose the bus for longer journeys instead of a car reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 80 percent.

FlixBus will continue to invest in the development of its network and services both globally and in the CEE South region in the coming months.

New International Routes

– Already in early April, we are opening new international routes, and we are also preparing to open domestic routes in Croatia, which will improve the connectivity of Croatian cities and make FlixBus easily accessible to travelers, said Dean Čebohin, development director for FlixBus CEE South region.

In order to fulfill the mission of providing smart and green mobility accessible to everyone to experience the world, FlixMobility has embarked on the realization of two key projects: FlixTrain, the first green train launching on March 23 in Germany, and the launch of FlixBus in the American market, specifically in California in spring 2018.
