General Petar Stipetić Has Passed Away

The former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia, General Petar Stipetić, passed away on Wednesday in Zagreb, as confirmed by the Ministry of Defense.

General Petar Stipetić was born on October 24, 1937, in Ogulin, where he completed primary school and high school. He graduated from the Military Academy of the Yugoslav People’s Army.

He held the highest command positions

At the invitation of President Franjo Tuđman in September 1991, General Stipetić joined the Croatian Army, where he held the highest command positions – Deputy Chief of the Command of the National Guard Corps, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia, Commander of the Slavonian Battlefield Command Sector in Đakovo, and Commander of the Zagreb Area Command. He was also the commander of the Croatian Military Academy and Assistant Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Army for the Combat Sector.

General Stipetić served as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia from 2000 to 2002, and he retired from that position with the rank of General.

Numerous decorations

For his active participation in the Homeland War and his contribution to the establishment of the Croatian Army, he received numerous decorations – the Homeland War Memorial, the Order of Nikola Šubić Zrinski, the Order of Ban Josip Jelačić, the Order of the Croatian Pleter, the Order of Duke Domagoj with a necklace, and the Grand Order of King Petar Krešimir IV with a ribbon and a star.

He also received the Storm and Flash medals, as well as commendations and awards from the Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff.

Prime Minister Plenković and Minister Krstičević expressed condolences

Condolences to the family of the late former General Petar Stipetić were expressed by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Damir Krstičević.

– Dear family, I received the news of Mr. Petar Stipetić’s death with regret. The general of the victorious Croatian Army, a recipient of the highest state honors: the Homeland War Memorial, the Order of Nikola Šubić Zrinski, the Order of Ban Josip Jelačić, the Order of the Croatian Pleter, the Order of Duke Domagoj with a necklace, and the Grand Order of King Petar Krešimir IV with a ribbon and a star, has indebted us with his selfless participation in the defense of the Republic of Croatia, stated Prime Minister Plenković.

We will remember him, he adds, for the duties he performed during that historical period, especially for commanding the Northern Sector during Operation Storm, his immeasurable contribution to the liberation of the Homeland, and the immense authority he earned from his comrades.

– In these sad moments for your family, please accept my sincere condolences and sympathy on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and my own, as stated in the Prime Minister’s expression of condolence.

The deepest condolences to the Stipetić family were expressed by Krstičević on behalf of the employees of the Ministry of Defense and members of the Croatian Army, as well as personally.

– With a heavy heart, I received the news of General Stipetić’s untimely passing, who made an immeasurable contribution to the creation and development of the Croatian Army during and after the Homeland War, emphasized the minister.

– In this difficult moment, we sympathize with you, with sorrow and nostalgia we remember our general, a great man and commander. Although there are no words that could ease your pain, know that we are with you, he conveyed in his expression of condolence.

The condolences to the Stipetić family were expressed by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia, General Mirko Šundov, on his own behalf and on behalf of all members of the Armed Forces.

– Special people, and our general truly was one, will live in our hearts even when they are no longer with us – therefore, I wish for you to remember with pride and joy the love and unforgettable moments with dear Petar. Know that in these difficult times you are not alone. With expressions of deepest sympathy, I am with you in spirit, stated General Šundov in his condolence.
