Construction of the eastern Bjelovar bypass worth 60 million kuna has begun

The Minister of Transport, Sea and Infrastructure Oleg Butković attended the opening of the works on the first phase of the Bjelovar eastern bypass worth 60 million kuna on Wednesday, and signed a contract with Bjelovar Mayor Dario Hrebak for the renovation of the roads leading from Bjelovar to Farkaševac, in order to open the section of the expressway Vrbovec – Farkaševac as soon as possible.

The company Strabag has begun construction of the first phase of the eastern Bjelovar bypass, which is expected to relieve freight traffic from the center of Bjelovar. The works are valued at 60 million kuna, and the deadline for their completion is 20 months.

On Wednesday, the works were also visited by the Director of Croatian Roads Josip Škorić, Members of Parliament Darinko Kosor, Miro Totgergeli, and Vladimir Bilek, Bjelovar-Bilogora County Prefect Damir Bajs, and Bjelovar Mayor Dario Hrebak.

Completion of the expressway Vrbovec – Farkaševac

Minister Butković emphasized that the construction of the bypass represents a small step towards the goal of the Government of the Republic of Croatia to connect Bjelovar with Zagreb in a quality manner. The completion of the expressway currently under construction on the section Vrbovec – Farkaševac, which is designed from Farkaševac towards Bjelovar, will help the most.

– Just at the location where the construction of the bypass begins, investments worth one hundred million euros are underway, and when completed, about a hundred trucks will pass through that road daily. This fact best illustrates how important the construction of the bypass is, explained Mayor Hrebak.

Prefect Bajs expressed satisfaction with the adherence to the agreement with the minister from October last year, related to the exit of Bjelovar-Bilogora County from traffic isolation.

– The construction of the bypass and the completion of the railway line Sv. Ivan Žabno – Gradec will be of great significance for this area, however, the most important for us will be the completion of the expressway to Bjelovar. In this regard, we proposed to the minister an additional exit near the place Rovišće, considering that the conceptual design for a new state road from Bjelovar to Đurđevac, which would connect precisely in Rovišće, is currently being developed, emphasized Bajs.

Tenders for the renovation of roads

Josip Škorić, Director of Croatian Roads, stated that tenders for the renovation of roads from Bjelovar to Farkaševac will be announced very soon. Namely, the access roads leading from Farkaševac to Bjelovar currently cannot accommodate freight traffic, which is why the section of the expressway from Vrbovec to Farkaševac cannot obtain an occupancy permit.

By renovating the roads, traffic for vehicles weighing up to 7.5 tons will be enabled, and the works are valued at 20 million kuna. Croatian Roads will provide 15, and the City of Bjelovar 5 million kuna to renovate the roads by summer, and to open the section Vrbovec – Farkaševac to traffic.
