State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Pension System Majda Burić confirmed on Wednesday in the Parliament that the Government will initiate a comprehensive pension reform in the second quarter of this year, stating that the working life until 67 years is nothing new, as it was prescribed by the law from 2014.
The Government is embarking on a comprehensive pension reform within which it will comprehensively regulate and improve all three pillars of pension insurance in cooperation with social partners, the scientific community, and the interested public.
– The working life until 67 years is nothing new, it is prescribed by the law from 2014, Burić replied to SDP’s Gordana Maras, who requested the Government to respond to the ‘spins’ that from 2033 one will enter retirement at the age of 67.

The State Secretary explains that the reform is an extremely complex activity within which a comprehensive in-depth analysis of the system, projections, and effects of possible solutions were made last year, in order to ensure social security for all retirees, along with the long-term sustainability of the pension system.
Greater mobility of workers
Burić stated this in the discussion on amendments to the law on voluntary pension funds and pension insurance companies, which received support from representatives, and which align domestic legislation with the legal acquis of the European Union, enable greater mobility of workers among states, and improve the acquisition and preservation of rights to supplementary pensions.
The amendments also prevent associates of persons convicted of criminal offenses from having a controlling stake or managerial position in pension companies or pension insurance companies.

It allows HANFA to collect relevant data from competent authorities in the procedures for issuing approvals for acquiring qualified shares and for performing the function of a member of the management board of a pension company, in order to determine whether they are associates of persons convicted of criminal offenses.
The Government is seeking for the amendments to be voted on in an urgent procedure so that at the meeting of the Council of Europe MONEYVAL in early April, a conclusion is not reached that Croatia has not made sufficient progress regarding the European recommendation, Burić explained.
