Elon Musk has once again proven to be one of the world’s greatest visionaries by announcing that he has set a deadline for the launch and testing of his spacecraft aimed at colonizing Mars, and that this will happen as early as next year, reports CNBC.

Recall that Musk announced last September that by 2022, SpaceX plans to send a cargo mission to the Red Planet, which is the most important step before sending a human crew to that planet. Musk surprised attendees at this year’s technology and culture fair in Texas by revealing that he is building the first interplanetary spacecraft that will also serve for shorter trips starting in the first half of next year.
SpaceX’s BFR rocket system is expected to be reusable for interplanetary travel, and the flight will cost less than flights of the Falcon 1 rocket, which range from $5 to $6 million. Musk hopes that others, if the BFR project succeeds, will believe that travel to Mars is possible and follow his example.

Musk explained in his presentation that for the realization of the mission, or the construction of a colony on the ‘Red Planet’, he will need glass domes, a power plant, and a range of basic necessities, and after the infrastructure is complete, there will be an explosion of entrepreneurial opportunities as there will be demand for almost everything on Mars, from iron foundries to pizzerias, Musk emphasizes.
