The new Mercedes Maybach S-Class is coming soon with an impressive intelligent front upgrade. Thanks to the Digital Light system, each headlight contains a million pixels of resolution, and using sensors and computers, it displays a wealth of information to the driver on the road ahead of the vehicle, writes News Atlas.
What caught attention in Mercedes’ ESF (Experimental Safety Vehicle) in 2009 were the long intelligent lights consisting of 100 individually controlled LEDs that interacted with the car’s sensors to ensure they illuminated everything except the eyes of other drivers on the road, and visually illuminated pedestrians on the road when the vehicle’s low beams were activated. Today, nearly 10 years later, the Mercedes Maybach features such a system but at a completely new level.

The Digital Light system, which will be installed in selected S-Class vehicles, provides drivers with incredible light management capabilities such as illuminating the road with symbols and high-resolution markings that serve as driving assistance.
White lines represent the overall width of the vehicle so that the driver can see if they can pass through a narrow passage, large arrows pointing towards pedestrians indicate that they are in danger of stepping in front of the vehicle, and speed-sensitive distance markings show how far they should approximately keep from another car.

There are many other symbols such as warnings for objects in the blind spot, markings that alert if the driver is leaving their lane, and similar. Theoretically, a black-and-white resolution of 2 megapixels can project almost anything onto the road, but for safety reasons, the number of symbols will be quite limited.
