According to a study on the budget performance of local and regional self-government units, the richest municipality in Croatia is Medulin, writes Glas Istre.
With a revenue of 67.6 million kuna in 2016, the Municipality of Medulin ranks first, followed by the Municipality of Konavle with a revenue of 66.2 million kuna, as shown by the study on the budget performance of local and regional self-government units conducted by Katarina Ott, Mihaela Bronić, and Branko Stanić from the Institute of Public Finance in Zagreb.

Their research, based on data from the Ministry of Finance, shows that Sutivan leads in revenue per capita with 16,782 kuna, followed by Vir with 16,142 kuna and Baška with 15,630 kuna. The Municipality of Medulin has 10,434 kuna in revenue per capita and ranks 16th.
This does not mean that a municipality with high revenue per capita is wealthy, as it may invest a lot per resident on average, nor does it mean that a municipality with a large budget is rich, warn the authors of the study. There are some local self-government units that have relatively high revenues per capita, but that does not necessarily mean they are performing well. An example is the Municipality of Civljane, which in 2016 was among the 18 municipalities with the highest budget revenues per capita, but more than 75 percent of those funds were state aid.
