dm donated nearly 250 thousand kuna for the purchase of devices for breast cancer treatment

The drugstore chain dm on Tuesday handed over a donation worth 246,500 kuna to the Croatian Forum Against Breast Cancer Europa Donna for the purchase of an intraoperative radiation device, collected as part of the campaign ‘Even Winter Has a Warm Heart’.

The device intended for the treatment of breast cancer patients reduces radiation emissions, facilitates the treatment process and recovery, as instead of 25 to 30 visits for radiation therapy, the patient can be with family and at work after just a few days, dm emphasizes in a statement.

>>>dm confirmed its leading position in the market

– Almost one in ten women in Croatia is diagnosed with breast cancer, and the procurement of the intraoperative radiation device would greatly ease their fight against this serious illness. The benefits of therapy for women for whom this procedure is indicated are primarily medical, but also social, as recovery is shorter and the return to family and work is quicker. From an economic perspective, the cost of treatment is lower, there is no need for re-hospitalization or travel expenses for postoperative radiation, emphasized the president of the Europa Donna Croatia association, Vesna Ramljak.

dm secured the donation in collaboration with more than 30,000 customers who supported Europa Donna by purchasing bags signed by Ljupka Gojić and exchanging points in the campaign ‘Even Winter Has a Warm Heart’. All proceeds from the sale of the bags were donated by dm to Europa Donna, and on behalf of each customer who exchanged points, dm donated three kuna for the purchase of the intraoperative radiation device.

>>>Women who work at night are more exposed to cancer, especially nurses

Board member of dm, Gordana Picek, stated that their partnership with Europa Donna enabled them to encourage customers to think about how they can contribute to their health, which is why the campaign ‘Even Winter Has a Warm Heart’ also had an educational role, as they provided everyone who exchanged points with key information about breast self-examination and regular check-ups.
