PHOTO: The 20th Anniversary of the Svjetlost Clinic Celebrated

Twenty years have passed since Nikica Gabrić and his associates opened the doors of the Svjetlost clinic to the public and offered private ophthalmological services for the first time in Croatia. Since its opening in 1998, the clinic has grown into the largest ophthalmological clinic in Southeast Europe.

From an initial five employees and 500 operations in the first year, with half a million kuna in revenue, today the clinic employs around 200 staff and generates 70 million kuna in annual revenue.

To date, the Svjetlost clinic team has performed a total of 125,000 operations and treated 350,000 patients using the most modern technology at its several locations across the region, it was stated at the ceremonial celebration held on Friday.

– In the future, we plan to open new clinics in the region and beyond, we plan to employ young people, doctors who will not go abroad, and consolidate other private institutions in terms of a private general hospital, announced Iva Dekaris, medical director of the Svjetlost clinic.

The ceremony was attended by numerous guests, including the President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, the President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović, the envoy of the President of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Rado Bošnjak, Minister of Health Milan Kujundžić, and many other statesmen and public figures.

Today, in addition to Zagreb and Split, the clinic has centers in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Budva, and Novi Sad, and this year centers will be opened in Pristina and Skopje.

In her speech, President Grabar Kitarović highlighted that the Svjetlost clinic sends a clear message that success is possible in Croatia, and that despite difficulties, Croatia can be a natural habitat for success.

– The example of the Svjetlost clinic is very important today when young people in Croatia are faced with a lack of perspective, instant solutions, and the imperative of overnight success as the only alternative. Sustainable growth and development is the only sure path to retaining young people, awakening perspective through personal development and advancement, and comparability and competitiveness in the international and regional market, emphasized the president.

She also emphasized that private healthcare plays an important role in raising the level of accessibility to healthcare, but it can also become one of the important economic drivers, especially through the development of health and medical tourism.

– I am particularly pleased with the successes of the Svjetlost clinic in neighboring countries, which indicate the possibilities and need for continuous development of economic cooperation, added the president.
