We announce the most important events from politics and the economy for Friday, February 23:

ZAGREB – The President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, will participate in the ceremony marking the 24th anniversary of the Honorary Protection Battalion and the Day of the Military Chaplaincy “St. Valentine” and the ceremony of naming the barracks after the “1st Croatian Guard Brigade” (10:45 AM, Barracks “1st Croatian Guard Brigade”, Tuškanac 36). The organizers invite the media to arrive at the Barracks no later than 10:30 AM.

ZAGREB – The President of the Republic will receive representatives of Serbian associations of the missing (1:15 PM Office of the President, Pantovčak 241). Photographers and cameramen may capture the beginning of the meeting after which a statement will be issued.

ZAGREB – A ceremonial celebration of 20 years of the Svjetlost Ophthalmology Clinic. The organizers expect the arrival of high-profile guests including the President of the Republic Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, Minister of Health Milan Kujundžić, Mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandić, President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović, and member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Čović (7:30 PM, at City Plaza Center in Zagreb, Slavonska Avenue 6).

ZAGREB – A press conference on the occasion of the 7th extraordinary (electoral) session of the Senate, at which the rector of the University of Zagreb will be elected for the next term (1:00 PM, Small Hall of the University of Zagreb, Trg Republike Hrvatske 14).

SPLIT – The Split Commercial Court will hold a hearing on the distribution of funds collected from buyers of real estate from Dalmacijavino in bankruptcy. The bankruptcy proceedings against Dalmacijavino, which are still ongoing, began in May 2012 when claims for 75 million kuna were recognized for 552 workers of the company. The Agency for the Protection of Workers’ Claims in the Event of Bankruptcy has paid 11 million kuna, while the remaining 64 million kuna has not yet been paid to the workers (10:00 AM, Faculty of Law Hall in Split, Domovinskog rata 8).

Economy:

VIROVITICA – At this year’s 23rd International Fair of Economy, Crafts, and Agriculture Viroexpo, which takes place from February 23 to 25, exhibitors from 29 countries will present themselves. The partner country of this year’s fair is Albania (11:00 AM, Matija Gupca Street 78).

ZAGREB – The Croatian Employers’ Association and its Nautical Sector Association are organizing a round table on the proposal for a new Maritime Code and the Law on Maritime Property and Ports, as well as the impact of these legal changes on the nautical sector, on the occasion of the Zagreb Nautical Fair. According to the organizers’ announcement, the discussion will focus on the proposal of legal novelties that will come into effect this year, with a special emphasis on the classification of nautical tourism ports, the future relationship of marinas, municipal and sports ports, and the overall impact on the nautical sector (10:00 AM, Zagreb Fair, Brijuni Hall, Dubrovnik Avenue 15).
