Hungary has spent more than one billion euros on border protection and wants at least half of that amount to be reimbursed from European Union funds, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Friday.
– We have spent more than one billion euros on border protection. We have not only protected ourselves but also Europe. At least half of that amount should be reimbursed, Orban said in a video posted on his Facebook page ahead of the summit of European leaders in Brussels.

He also stated that Hungary will propose to European leaders a ‘red card’ procedure to increase the sovereignty of national parliaments, which would give national parliaments the power to halt discussions in Europe if they believe that national interests are being violated.
