Mercedes: The New A-Class is Slightly Longer, Wider, Taller, and Digitized

The long-awaited new Mercedes A-Class has finally seen the light of day. According to announcements, it should represent a significant step forward for the German company and certainly shows that for the three-pointed star, there is no longer a difference whether it is the smallest model, in this case, the A-Class, or the largest, namely the most luxurious S-Class.

Compared to its predecessor, the new A-Class is 12 centimeters longer, 2 centimeters wider, and 1 centimeter taller. All this logically provides more space in the interior, which was a complaint about the previous model. In addition to pure centimeters, Mercedes has made a real small revolution in the cockpit: digital instruments are now an integral part of the vehicle, and the customer can choose from several versions of digital displays. Of course, the larger and better it is, the more expensive it becomes.

The Difference Between Old and New

Externally, the new A-Class follows the new design trend set by the CLS model. However, it is not a revolution like the one caused by the A-Class model that appeared in 2012, but there is a clear difference between the old and new A-Class. In terms of equipment, Mercedes offers the same options as with larger sedans, so the new model can be equipped with Distronic, which follows the vehicle in front of you, and other innovations in the field of safety and comfort. The engine offering initially consists of three units: two petrol and one diesel engine.

New Feature – Petrol A200

The petrol model A200 is a complete novelty as it features a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbo engine developed in collaboration with Renault, which premieres in the A-Class. It develops a maximum power of 163 horsepower and allows for the deactivation of two cylinders when not needed, which also means lower consumption. The A250 model has a well-known two-liter engine that, boosted by six horsepower, now develops as much as 224 horsepower. The diesel variant is represented by the well-known 1.5-liter engine, also a product of collaboration with Renault and currently the most sought-after version in Croatia.

In its new guise, it has gained seven horsepower, bringing the total to 116. The transmission can be a classic manual with six speeds or, for the weaker petrol and diesel variants, a new automatic dual-clutch with seven speeds that Mercedes acquired from Getrag, while the A250 has the well-known Mercedes automatic transmission also with seven gears. The drive is standard on the front wheels, and a 4Matic version is also available. The new A-Class is coming to Croatia in May. Prices are not yet known, but they are expected to be higher than the previous model.
