Goran Galić appointed new editor-in-chief of ‘Vijenca’

The Main Board of Matica hrvatska has appointed the current acting editor-in-chief Goran Galić as the new editor-in-chief of the biweekly magazine ‘Vijenca’, Matica hrvatska announced.

Presenting his program, Galić stated that he sees ‘Vijenac’ as the central publication for all Croatian artists and intellectuals, which regularly, informatively, and critically follows the areas defined in its subtitle – art, culture, and science, in a selected Croatian language at a national level.

– The criteria for the selection of cultural content are artistic and aesthetic value, while the criteria for selecting collaborators are expertise, writing skill, and experience, he noted, adding that a significant value and comparative advantage of ‘Vijenca’ is the cultivation of artistic criticism.

Galić announced more contributions about the culture of Croats abroad and strengthening cooperation with Matica’s departments and branches, as well as all interested cultural, artistic, and scientific institutions and professional associations.

‘Vijenac’ should partly serve as Matica’s forum and, in accordance with that, to some extent follow key social issues, especially those that do not have access to the media.

He believes that contributions on social issues should not be reduced to “fruitless ideological squabbles” that divide Croatian society but should rest on the professional expertise of the authors, investigative journalism, the search for solutions, and the principle that “facts are sacred, and commentary is free.”

Goran Galić was born in 1988 in Sisak. He graduated in Croatian culture and communication studies. Since 2010, he has been collaborating with ‘Vijencem’. In 2015, he was appointed deputy editor-in-chief, and in 2017, acting editor-in-chief. He is the founder and leader of the Media Meetings project at Matica hrvatska.
