Investments in new technologies and optics brought Vipnet 434.9 million euros in revenue in 2017.

Telekom Vipnet achieved 434.9 million euros in revenue last year, which is 2.6 percent higher than in 2016, while EBITDA increased by 9.6 percent to 108 million euros, as reported by Vipnet.

Vipnet’s business results were published on Wednesday as part of the results of the parent Telekom Austria Group, and Vipnet emphasizes that last year was a year of growth for them.

– The increase in revenue was influenced by the continuation of investments in new technologies and stronger expansion of the optical network, as well as good results in both the mobile and fixed segments, they say at Vipnet.

In the mobile segment, they highlight that last year they recorded a 3.1 percent increase in users, totaling 1.7 million, as well as a 14 percent increase in the subscriber base.

– In the mobile segment, we recorded revenue growth primarily due to the monetization of increased data traffic usage driven by the development of the 4G+/LTE network, they say at Vipnet, adding that by combining mobile and fixed technologies, they have brought high-speed broadband internet to all parts of Croatia.

In the fixed segment, they emphasize that the number of households using fixed communication and TV services in 2017 increased to 296.6 thousand, which is 4 percent more compared to 2016, and the number of fixed broadband lines increased by 0.6 percent. In the TV segment, by combining cable, IPTV, and satellite television, Vipnet achieved a 4.3 percent increase in the number of users in 2017.

Last year, Vipnet invested a total of 84.7 million euros, or 4.6 percent more than the previous year, and they state that they “built the largest fixed network in Croatia based on optical infrastructure with availability in over 465 thousand households.”

They say that this network is ready for the Digital Agenda 2025 with minimum speeds of 100 Mbit/s, and in the mobile segment, they completed the project of implementing the fastest 4G+/LTE network in larger cities with speeds of up to 300 Mbit/s and began testing 5G functionalities.

Croatia still lags behind the EU

Commenting on last year’s results, the CEO of Vipnet, Jiri Dvorjančansky, emphasized the achievement of growth in all key market categories, along with simultaneous entry into new business areas.

>>>The Vip brand will soon become history, to be replaced by the A1 brand

– We ended last year with a significant achievement in the premium sports content segment by securing rights to broadcast UEFA Champions League matches. In the business customer segment, in less than a year after the acquisition of Metronet, we introduced the new brand Vip Metronet Business Solutions, which enables the provision of the most complex mobile, fixed, and ICT solutions, says Dvorjančansky.

He also states that “unfortunately, and despite Vipnet’s efforts and contributions to building optical networks, Croatia still lags behind the EU, which is why it must not miss the opportunity to build optical networks with a minimum speed of 100 Mbit/s,” and that “by building this new infrastructure, statistical indicators on the digitization of Croatia would improve, and it would strongly encourage the creation of equal opportunities for the development of all parts of Croatia.”
