Maksimir Forest Enriched by Two ‘Creatures’

The meerkat family from the Zagreb Zoo (ZOO) has welcomed two pups, currently of unknown sex, which visitors can see in their indoor enclosure in the African Village, the ZOO announced on Monday.

The male meerkat, who arrived a year ago from Amsterdam, and the female who came a month later from Frankfurt, became parents at the beginning of this year. Two little ones, of currently unknown sex, have entered the world. The one-month-old animals, according to the ZOO, are thriving excellently, their parents are caring for them diligently, and they still spend most of their time on their mother’s chest.

The ZOO states that the irresistible meerkats best testify to the love ignited by Maksimir Forest. Under the canopies of various trees, “animals that originate from all corners of the world are courting.”

Love Tours: Fourteen Shades of Red

And what is special about the love life of which species, visitors to the Zoo will be able to learn on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14. The ZOO announces that love tours, which this year are titled “Fourteen Shades of Red,” will start at 11 AM and 1 PM.

The focus will be on 14 species of animals. Along with meerkats, there will also be the Dalmatian pelican, ring-tailed lemur, Madagascar fody, red-necked wallaby, African lion, crowned crane, dik-dik, Bactrian camel, gray wolf, California sea lion, alpaca, white-handed gibbon, and Bali myna.

Under the guidance of educators, visitors will learn how these animals court, choose partners, reproduce, and raise their young.

The “Love Tours” at the Zagreb ZOO will last an hour and a half, and each group can have up to 30 participants, so a coupon for free participation in the tour will need to be picked up at the ZOO’s ticket office.

The ZOO states that couples united by a love for animals traditionally decide to adopt their favorite animals from the Zoo for Valentine’s Day. They announce that this year their souvenir shop also has a special offer.
