Farage: Brexit is in danger of being stopped by the establishment

If British Prime Minister Theresa May allows supporters of membership in the European Union to dilute or stop Brexit, Britain will find itself in the most severe constitutional crisis since World War II, claims Brexit advocate Nigel Farage.

Farage, who as the leader of the UKIP party convinced the Prime Minister’s predecessor David Cameron to call a referendum on the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union and then helped lead the campaign for exit, stated that Brexit is in danger of being stopped by the establishment. He called Prime Minister Theresa May “Theresa the Peacemaker” for conceding to the EU in almost every aspect of the Brexit negotiations and said that the EU has humiliated Britain.

– Now under our miserable leadership, Brexit exists only in name, and that is the most that can be obtained, Farage said in an interview with Reuters.

– In the worst case, they will force us to fight for the same thing again. This is a great betrayal of what millions voted for, Farage said.

In the 2016 referendum in the United Kingdom, 51.9 percent, or 17.4 million citizens, voted for leaving the EU while 48.1 percent, or 16.1 million, voted to remain. Farage dismisses concerns from major banks like Goldman Sachs that London could lose jobs due to Brexit, and he states that the EU, led by Germany, is a doomed experiment of European integration.

Opponents of Brexit are trying to gain support in the lower house of the British Parliament to block any exit agreement that May could return with from Brussels in October.

Among those calling for the stopping or abandoning of Brexit are former Prime Minister Tony Blair, Goldman Sachs chief Lloyd Blankfein, and billionaire George Soros. Soros has donated around £400,000 ($553,000) through his foundations to the organization “Best for Britain” which advocates for remaining in the EU. Farage stated that Soros’s activities in Western countries’ politics should be investigated and emphasized that the billionaire should come to London and publicly explain which political projects he is involved in.

– An investigation should be conducted into the extent of Soros’s undermining of policies across the Western world, Farage said. “This is the largest political campaign organization the world has ever seen, and most people do not see it.”

Soros’s spokesperson declined to comment on Farage’s statements, Reuters writes.
