Workers’ Council of May 3 Concerned: Delays in Construction, Material Shortages, Sending Workers to the Field

The Workers’ Council of Shipyard 3. May expressed concern at its inaugural meeting, where Juraj Šoljić was re-elected as president, regarding the state of the company, the fate of the workers, and the shipyard itself, particularly due to delays in the construction of new ships, material shortages, and the sending of workers to the field outside their workplace, as reported on Monday by the Workers’ Council of Shipyard 3. May.

The Workers’ Council believes that the management and the owner of the shipyard are primarily responsible for the current situation. They are concerned about the state of the order book and contracted jobs. They demand immediate payment for materials for the new construction of ship No. 528 and that workers sent to the field return to their jobs and construction at 3. May. In addition to the urgent payment to suppliers, they also demand the return of the loan for the Uljanik Group.

The Workers’ Council also requested a special report on the fulfillment of the items from the Share Transfer Agreement to Uljanik, which relate to investment, the participation of the new owner, and the book of contracted jobs.

“The Workers’ Council will act in accordance with positive regulations and laws and in accordance with the rules to preserve the company and its activities. In this way, as representatives of the workers, we demand that the responsible parties create conditions and that continuous production resumes, as it is the only guarantee for the survival of the shipbuilding activity of 3. May,” stated the Workers’ Council.

According to the data from the statement, six members of the Croatian Metalworkers’ Union – Industrial Union (SMH-IS) were elected to the Workers’ Council, three members from the Union of Istria, Kvarner, and Dalmatia (SIKD), and two from the Union of 3. May.

Juraj Šoljić, who is the SMH-IS commissioner at the shipyard, was elected as the president of the Workers’ Council, while Veljko Todorović serves as the deputy, both of whom have previously held these positions. At the same meeting, Juraj Šoljić was appointed as the workers’ representative on the Supervisory Board of the shipyard.

As emphasized in the statement, Šoljić had pointed out problems in the Uljanik Group four months ago by resigning from the Supervisory Board, warning the owners, the state, and the public that the management style could jeopardize the payment of salaries and the normal functioning of the shipyard.
