HZZO Clarified Doubts Regarding Participation Payments

The Croatian Health Insurance Institute (HZZO) announced on Monday, clarifying some doubts regarding participation payments during doctor visits, that children up to 18 years of age, as well as insured persons under HZZO who have any supplementary health insurance, do not pay participation fees.

HZZO states that the media has misinterpreted the Decision on the determination of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures for which participation in health care is prescribed when visiting a selected primary health care doctor in some cases.

The amount of participation for insured persons without supplementary health insurance during a single visit to the office remains 0.30 percent of the budget base, or 10 kuna, emphasizes HZZO.

An insured person who has paid the participation fee but was forced to request health services again on the same day in the same office due to a worsening condition or complications related to the same diagnosis does not have to pay the participation fee again.

However, if a patient without supplementary insurance returns to their doctor’s office during the day for another reason, and the doctor performs the initial examination again, they will have to pay the participation fee of 10 kuna again.

The number of active supplementary health insurance policies under HZZO as of January 31 was 1,646,249 policies with payment, and 743,324 policies at the expense of the state budget, according to the announcement.
