A young woman suffered severe burns on Saturday in the southern German town of Eppingen after carnival participants threw her into a witch’s cauldron full of boiling water. The eighteen-year-old was first held above the cauldron from which hot steam was rising and then ended up with her lower legs submerged in the boiling water.

Around 2000 participants were dressed as witches for the annual witch parade organized by the local pub for the Fasnet season (carnival). Fasnet, which dates back to the 13th century, is celebrated in this part of Germany by dressing up as witches and devils in colorful costumes and wooden masks. The Eppingen witch club Hexenzunft Eppingen has been organizing parades since 2003.
The police are investigating the case.
