In recent years, Poland has recorded the largest decrease in poverty among the member states of the European Union, according to Eurostat data, reports The News.

On the other hand, Greece has seen the largest increase in poverty. The risk of poverty and the rate of social exclusion in Poland decreased by 8.6 percentage points from 2008 to 2016. In Latvia, this rate fell by 5.7, and in Romania by 5.4 percentage points.

The highest risk of poverty was recorded in Bulgaria, while the lowest was recorded in the Czech Republic. Last year, 117.5 million EU citizens, or 23.4 percent of the total population, faced the risk of poverty or social exclusion according to Eurostat data.
