Most’s parliamentary representative Miro Bulj stated on Wednesday, while discussing the financial audit of 20 county road authorities (ŽUC) for the year 2015, that money was allocated to county authorities based on political criteria and that they are ‘factories of jobs’. His claims were dismissed by HDZ’s Petar Škorić and SDP’s Saša Đujić.
“I see no sense in so many ŽUCs, it is a factory of jobs, an electoral potential that needs to be activated at a certain moment,” said Bulj, asserting that money was allocated to ŽUCs based on political criteria, stating that when SDP was in power, the most was given to Istria, Zagorje, and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and now it will go to counties where HDZ is in power.

“A huge amount of money for roads goes through various filters, it gets lost by the time it reaches local government, asphalt is most abundant before elections, in Imotski, trucks were racing through the town looking for where to ‘blacktop’,” said Bulj, who also claimed that one hundred thousand people have left the Dalmatian hinterland since the formation of Split-Dalmatia County.

“You haven’t read the audit findings, those are your subjective experiences, ŽUCs have justified their existence, they are not over-indebted and operate rationally,” replied HDZ representative Škorić.
Claims about the political distribution of money were also dismissed by Đujić (SDP). “Primorje-Gorski Kotar County still receives a lot of money today, when HDZ is in power, but because it has projects; no one can give you money in ŽUC if you don’t have projects,” Đujić retorted to the Most representative, adding that “only Božidar Kalmeta distributed money without projects.”
