Lawyer of Ivan Crnjac: The Story of Repentance is Nonsense

The first detainees in the Agrokor case are expected to be brought in for questioning at the Zagreb County State Attorney’s Office this afternoon, after which the prosecution should decide whether to initiate an investigation against them and for what criminal offenses.

According to currently available information, Ivan Crnjac, Piruška Canjuga, Ljerka Puljić, Tomislav Lučić, Damir Kuštrak, and Mislav Galić were arrested on Monday morning. All of them were members of the management or supervisory board of the troubled conglomerate, which had seven members in its management before the arrival of the extraordinary government commissioner Ante Ramljak.

Crnjac was the first to be arrested after a search of his house, and the media soon began to speculate that he could be a repentant witness. However, his lawyer Ljubo Pavasović Visković dismissed such claims for Hina, stating that there had been no discussion about it.

“No one has contacted him, nor has he contacted anyone. Therefore, the whole story about repentance is total nonsense,” said Pavasović Visković.

With the arrests of former Agrokor leaders who managed the company before it was taken over by temporary management, the police began early Monday morning, and according to the State Attorney’s Office, “investigations and searches” are ongoing for 15 individuals.

Sources close to the investigation reveal that Todorić, who is allegedly in London with his sons, is being charged with obtaining illegal property benefits, specifically that he presented Agrokor’s business and financial position in its fundamental financial reports as more successful than the actual results.

Former company leaders allegedly enabled him to present positive business results.

Only after questioning at the State Attorney’s Office will investigators decide whether to initiate an investigation against the suspects, and if they decide to request pre-trial detention for them, this will be determined by the investigating judge of the Zagreb County Court. However, the suspects will almost certainly not be brought to court until Tuesday.
