Dugopolje: Anđa Perić Celebrates 107th Birthday

Anđa Perić from Kotlenica near Dugopolje celebrated her 107th birthday on Friday, and as the oldest resident of Split-Dalmatia County, she was congratulated by County Prefect Blaženko Boban, who brought her a full basket of gifts. She was born on October 13, 1910, gave birth to three children, and has four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.

She never attended school and saw a doctor for the first time at the age of one hundred, when she fell in her yard in Kotlenice and broke her hip, which required surgery. After that, she did not go again. She has lived in five countries, experienced three wars, but could not say in which country she was happiest. She told reporters that her son and daughter-in-law take care of her, and that she certainly would not have lived to such an age if they were not attentive and kind to her. Her life has been both hard and easy, she says, and now her problem is difficulty walking, for which she uses a walker.

>>>Centenarians in Japan are breaking records in numbers, with 67,824 having reached the age of 100.

She spends her days mostly sitting in the yard in front of her house after getting up, praying the rosary, and enjoying the greenery and peace. She eats everything, especially loves to eat meat, and her day does not end without at least a glass of red wine. – I am glad to have lived to this age. I am really glad. When dear God allowed me to live this long. I constantly pray to dear God and thank Him for my life, said Anđa Perić.

County Prefect Blaženko Boban expressed his wish to come and congratulate her on her birthday in the coming years. Her 74-year-old son Vlade, who takes care of her, claims that his mother has no special wishes nor does she choose the food she eats, but that there must always be red, homemade wine on the table, and that a liter lasts her three days. His wife Iva says that she has never had a quarrel with her mother-in-law, that they can say anything to each other, but that they forget everything in a minute because those are not real quarrels.

– She is so sharp, smarter than I am. She is not demanding, but she is happiest when eating meat. She remembers everything. Most of all the First and Second World Wars, and the last one the least. Her memories are evidenced by her stories from a hundred years ago that she still vividly remembers. As far as I know, the whole family is healthy and long-lived, while her children are not. Two of her daughters are immobile, and my husband is also ill. She loves and values herself the most, and I think that is the only recipe for longevity. In addition, she is a very good, reasonable, and calm person, claims Iva.

Cheers to you, Grandma Anđa, we will see each other again next year, the reporters told her, with whom she toasted after the cake with 20-year-old prosecco.
