Secretary General of HNS Srećko Ferenčak and his co-defendant Petar Turković were acquitted on Thursday at the Zagreb County Court in the ‘Nanbudo affair’, for which they had previously been convicted twice, but the Supreme Court overturned those verdicts.

Neither Ferenčak nor Turković attended the announcement of the verdict delivered by Judge Irena Kvaternik. At the end of the evidentiary proceedings of the third trial on Monday, the defendants and their defenses requested an acquittal, claiming that they were not guilty of any point of the indictment brought against them by the Zagreb County State Attorney’s Office.
Due to accusations that they resold land of 5,000 square meters, intended for the construction of a Center for Daily Care of the Disabled, to Konzum in 2002 and earned more than 9.5 million kuna in the process, they were last convicted in September 2014 to partially conditional sentences. In the first verdict from March 2010, they were provisionally sentenced to one year in prison. Both earlier verdicts were overturned by the Supreme Court due to incorrectly established factual circumstances.
