The Eco Crisis Headquarters Marišćina states that the costs of what they describe as the misguided County Waste Management Center Marišćina have been billed to citizens, and they urge all those whose September waste collection bills have increased by about 110 percent to contest these bills and request the Utility Company Čistoća to calculate the collection price based on the amount of waste submitted.
The eco headquarters called on citizens to contest what they claim are illegally issued bills according to a template prepared by the association, which will be published on its website.

– We urge citizens to request through the bill contestation that Čistoća adheres to legal regulations that unequivocally define the calculation of waste collection prices based on the amount submitted, rather than according to the ideas of the director of that utility company, who is trying to resolve her own financial problems at the expense of citizens, stated the eco headquarters.
The association notes that over the past five years, they have repeatedly spoken about the cost, ecological, and technological aspects of the misguided Marišćina project, while local authorities have dismissively waved off their warnings, calling them street pseudo-ecologists and referring to experts within their ranks.

– These days, that ‘expertise’ has delivered a bill to the residents of Rijeka and surrounding municipalities and cities for all the invested ignorance, incompetence, inaction, and inefficient operations of Čistoća, the association stated, emphasizing that the explanation for the enormous increase presented in the accompanying letter is particularly irritating.
– The arrogance with which responsible persons at Čistoća publicly state that the main reason for the price increase is the delay in launching the Marišćina center and the transportation of waste to various landfills across Croatia, which citizens must pay for, is unbelievable.
The association assesses that the claims made by Čistoća regarding high investment costs in the waste separation system are “arrogant and untrue,” as public statements from the Utility Company Ponikve indicate that the calculated net cost of the separated waste collection system applied on the island of Krk is 240 kuna per ton, while the cost of transporting and disposing of waste at Marišćina, according to the price list of Ekoplusa managing Marišćina, is 470 kuna per ton.

The Eco Headquarters emphasizes that, according to the Waste Management Act, Čistoća is obliged to calculate the price of the public service proportionally to the amount of waste submitted during the billing period and to keep records of the amount of waste taken from each user.
