President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović expressed concern on Tuesday about the results of the revised financial report of Agrokor, which showed that the company’s situation is far worse than previously assumed, and stated that the relevant institutions will decide on criminal liability, which she urged to “make maximum effort to strengthen confidence in the Croatian judiciary,” while expecting the government to protect Croatian economic interests, ensuring that not a kuna of Agrokor’s debts falls on the shoulders of taxpayers.

Closely following all events related to resolving the issues of Agrokor d.d. and the Agrokor group, I express concern regarding the publication of the revised financial report of Agrokor d.d. and the Agrokor group, conducted by the auditing firm Price Waterhouse Coopers and presented by the extraordinary commissioner Mr. Ante Ramljak. The published audit of the Agrokor group’s balance sheets showed that the company’s situation is far worse than previously assumed. The report indicates that Agrokor’s management concealed the true state of affairs, according to the statement from the president.
The relevant institutions will decide on criminal liability, which I urge to make maximum effort to strengthen confidence in the Croatian judiciary. At this moment, it is crucial to maintain production in Croatia, preserve the value of Agrokor’s companies, among which are the flagships of the Croatian food industry. Only through quality management can we save thousands of jobs and the livelihoods of their families, she stated.

She expects the Government of the Republic of Croatia to protect Croatian economic interests, both domestically and abroad, ensuring that not a kuna of Agrokor’s debts falls on the shoulders of taxpayers. “We must use this crisis to finally complete the transition process and elevate Croatia from the bottom of the rankings of positive economic indicators in the European Union. We must utilize our potentials, increase international competitiveness, and ensure a better standard of living for all our citizens,” she stated.
