Plenković announced ‘European solutions’ in the revised draft of the Family Law

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković stated on Monday, in response to unofficial media claims that the Ministry of Demography, Family, Youth and Social Policy has completed a new draft of the Family Law, that he expects political consultations to be conducted before public consultation, and that all solutions included will be appropriate and at the level of quality European practice.

– As far as I know, after we withdrew the draft prepared by the Working Group from the electronic bulletin for public consultation, the minister was tasked with revising the text. Consultations are currently being conducted, and in accordance with the working methodology, I expect Minister Nada Murganić to, when this new working text is ready to go for public consultation again, conduct final political consultations beforehand, he said.

– When I see the text, we will look at everything that is important and all solutions that will be included will be appropriate and at the level of quality European practice, the Prime Minister stated during his visit to Divulje.

The draft proposal of the Family Law was withdrawn from public consultation at the end of September, and Plenković says he reacted because the law needed to be refined after he saw that such an important law had gone to public discussion. He emphasized that this is not the responsibility of Minister Murganić as the procedure at the government level is such that texts from working groups go to preliminary public consultation.
