An inspection from the Ministry of Health and the Croatian Health Insurance Institute has been sent to KBC Zagreb to review the process of informing patients about debts and the potential initiation of enforcement proceedings, it was learned on Monday from the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry has also sent a letter to all hospitals requesting them to report on their actions in such cases, and after data is collected and an analysis is conducted, the Ministry will make a decision on taking necessary measures.
The Association of Croatian Patients requested a change in regulations and a halt to enforcement on Sunday from Health Minister Milan Kujundžić and HZZO Director Fedor Dorčić, after a Facebook post by Gordan Lauc, a professor at the Zagreb Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, was reported in the media, stating that he received an enforcement order from KBC Zagreb for nearly 700 kuna due to a debt of 25 kuna from 2015, for which he did not receive a bill.

Lauc has filed a criminal complaint with the State Attorney’s Office due to this.
