Croatian fishermen are calling for the establishment of a Central State Office for Fisheries, beneficial work experience for fishermen who are holders of fishing crafts, and a lower VAT on fish and other marine organisms, as stated at the 22nd Meeting of Fishermen held in Rabac.

From the two-day gathering in Rabac, fishermen requested increased supervision of non-economic fishing at sea, an assessment of the impact of predation by the grouper on Croatian shellfish farming, measures to reduce damage caused by predation, and the creation of prerequisites for the concession of the coast for operational needs in shellfish farming.
They insist that by the end of this year, the Ministry of the Sea urgently amend the Maritime Code and the Law on Maritime Property and Ports in the part relating to fisheries as a strategic economic branch. They are asking that this ministry strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture in addressing fishing issues.
The traditional 22nd Meeting of Fishermen was held in Rabac on October 6 and 7, organized by the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts (HOK), with the host of this year’s expert meeting on fisheries being the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Istria County, and the sponsor being the Ministry of Agriculture, as announced on Saturday by the HOK’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Guild.
