American neurosurgeon Donald Hilton, who is participating in Rome at an international interdisciplinary congress on the sexual dangers that threaten children, warned that the brains of young people who watch pornography on the internet are changing and shaping in a very harmful way.
This concern is shared by Pope Francis, who hosted 150 experts from the congress in the Vatican on Friday and called on all components of society to “wake up their conscience.”
In an interview with France Presse, Hilton warned that brain cells change by accepting new knowledge, but learning in a state of addiction to anything shapes the brain in a very harmful way. When it comes to pornography, “it is a very powerful marking process that the brain never forgets,” says Hilton.

Additionally, pornography can harm emotions, he warns, whereby men can reach a stage where real women are just a poor substitute for pornography. There are numerous studies showing that internet pornography can create a strong addiction.
Hilton ultimately warned that society should not allow the pornography industry to control the sexual education of children and that lawmakers must do something about it.
