ZET transported 0.9 percent more passengers, employed 1.4 percent more workers

In the first half of this year, Zagreb’s public transport carried 149.7 million passengers, which is 0.9 percent more than in the same period last year, and at the end of June, the public transport had 3,727 employees, 1.4 percent more than a year ago, according to the data from the Statistics Department of the City Office for Strategic Planning and Development.

Trams are the most attractive mode of transport

More than two-thirds of passengers, or 68.3 percent, were transported by trams in Zagreb’s public transport, which carried just over 102.3 million passengers in the first six months of this year. Buses of Zagreb’s public transport simultaneously carried nearly 47.1 million passengers, and the funicular carried 374 thousand passengers.

According to the city statistics based on ZET data, trams and buses transported 0.9 percent more passengers than in the same period last year, while the funicular recorded a 9.4 percent increase in the number of passengers.

At the end of June this year, Zagreb’s public transport operator had 3,727 employees, which is 1.4 percent more than at the end of June last year. Meanwhile, the number of drivers grew somewhat slower, with 1,770 drivers at the end of June, or 1.1 percent more than at the end of June last year, while the number of other employees grew faster, by 1.7 percent, to 1,924.

Freight transport

According to data on road freight transport obtained from the State Bureau of Statistics, in the first half of the year, legal and natural persons engaged in freight transport in Zagreb and owners or users of road freight vehicles transported a total of 7.4 million tons of goods, which is 11.4 percent less than in the same period last year.

This decline is a result of the decrease in domestic freight transport, which, with 6.4 million tons of goods transported, recorded a year-on-year decline of 12.9 percent, while international transport stagnates at just over one million tons of goods transported.

This decline was influenced by the decrease in legal entities, which transported 7.1 million tons of goods in the first six months, or 12.1 percent less than last year. At the same time, however, natural persons engaged in freight transport transported 10.4 percent more goods, or 307 thousand tons.
