ZAGREB – The Parliamentary Committee for Health and Social Policy will hold a thematic session: “The Future of Public Health within New Legislative Solutions”. The Committee believes that demographic changes, new technologies, growing problems of environmental impact on health, socioeconomic and other changes create complex health problems and challenges (1:30 PM). The concept of ‘health for all’ and the promotion, improvement, and preservation of the health of the population, equal access and reduction of health inequalities, as well as the understanding of investing in health as the most cost-effective investment in the development of society, are the fundamental purposes of public health, according to the Committee. To implement and sustain the public health system, as well as further develop the principles of public health policy in the health system, it is necessary to ensure an appropriate legislative and organizational structure of the public health network. Therefore, the Committee intends to update public health issues in the thematic discussion and encourage the adoption of concrete measures. Before the thematic session, the Chairwoman of the Committee Ines Strenja Linić, the President of the Croatian Medical Chamber Trpimir Goluža, and the Director of the Croatian Institute of Public Health Krunoslav Capak will give statements to the media, (1:15 PM, at the “Baška Tablet”, Croatian Parliament, St. Mark’s Square 6).

ZAGREB – The parliamentary club of IDS, PGS, and RI will present their Proposal for a law that prohibits and punishes the use of the greeting “For Home Ready” at a press conference (11 AM, Croatian Parliament, “Ivan Kukuljević” hall).

ZAGREB – The Center for Democracy and Law Miko Tripalo is organizing a book promotion for Miko Tripalo: Open Society and a round table on Democracy and Responsibility. By presenting the book Miko Tripalo: Open Society, the Miko Tripalo Center is publicly presenting the manuscript legacy of Tripalo’s notes alongside the eponymous book by Karl Popper for the first time. The book will be promoted by editors Goran Sunajka and Dario Čepa, along with Vesna Pusić (10 AM, Great Hall of the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Law, Trg Republike Hrvatske 14).

ZAGREB – The celebration of the 25th anniversary of the SOS Children’s Village Croatia will take place at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb (Gorgona Hall) at 6 PM. The Minister for Demography, Family, Youth and Social Policy Nada Murganić, as well as other government representatives and long-time partners, donors, and friends of SOS Children’s Village Croatia, who have supported the work and activities of the Association for many years, will be present at the celebration. Additionally, as part of the program, awards will be given to SOS mothers, who have selflessly provided a caring home for children entrusted to their care for over 10 years. From the president of the umbrella organization SOS Children’s Villages International Siddhartha Kaula, SOS mothers from Albania, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, and Croatia will receive a ring of honor as a token of gratitude for their dedicated effort and work. The festive celebration is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Demography, Family, Youth and Social Policy.

ZAGREB – A press conference of the Croatian Pensioners’ Union will be held regarding the protests of pensioners “Stop Poverty and Humiliation in Old Age”. SUH has decided to organize pensioner protests in several Croatian cities, with the central one taking place on Tuesday, October 10, at Ban Josip Jelačić Square near Manduševac (10:30 AM, Workers’ Home, Trg Petra Krešimira 4, room 424/IV).

Economy

ZAGREB – The total number of employed in industry in August remained unchanged compared to July, and compared to August 2016, it is higher by 0.3 percent, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics. Total labor productivity in industry from January to August 2017 compared to the same period last year is higher by 1.9 percent.
