In recent years, we have witnessed a significant increase in the number of news articles about blockchain, one of the main technologies underlying cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. These currencies of the future and the technologies that enable them will be discussed at ‘Blockchain Adria’, the largest conference of its kind in Southeast Europe, which will take place on October 14 in Rovinj.
Avoid the mistake
At the beginning of 2010, the value of Bitcoin was much lower. One Bitcoin was worth about $0.004 at that time, a staggering 986,922 times less than today ($3,947.69). The miner at that time, whose full name was Laszlo Hanyecz, online nickname Laszlo, likely made the biggest mistake of his life on May 22, 2010. He posted on the Bitcoin Talk forum that he would pay anyone 10,000 Bitcoins just to bring him or order two Papa John’s pizzas. The current value of those 10,000 Bitcoins would be over $39 million or about 1,500,000 pizzas.
In an interview with the New York Times in 2013, Laszlo stated that Bitcoin had no real value at that time and that exchanging Bitcoins for pizzas was a ‘really cool idea’. Since that day, Laszlo has entered into legend, and May 22 has been declared Bitcoin Pizza Day.

Pizzerias around the world offer discounts on that day if you order a pizza and pay with Bitcoins. We believe that from just one story about blockchain, you could grasp the potential it holds and why you need to attend the ‘Blockchain Adria’ conference.
Do not make the mistake like Laszlo and take Bitcoin lightly. The conference will feature over 25 speakers from the region and the world, including Tadej Slapnik (State Secretary to the Prime Minister of Slovenia), Anton Golub (co-founder of Lykkea), Ivan Bjelajac (Chief Operating Officer at GoDaddy Serbia), Danny Goh (Nexus FrontierTech), Terence Tse (Professor at COTRUGLI Business School and at Nexus FrontierTech), Nikola Jokić (Krypto Investment Partners)…
Blockchain Startups
The conference will particularly emphasize the launch of startups that will base their business on blockchain technology, and in addition to launching future blockchain companies, other aspects of this technology will be discussed by presenting examples of regional initiatives based on it. The conference organizers note that the blockchain revolution has brought internet values, a new platform that will change the way business is conducted online for the better. More information can be found on the official website of the conference organized by COTRUGLI Business School.
