Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin stated on Sunday in Šibenik – responding to Croatian condemnations of the erection of a monument to former JNA officer Milan Tepić in Serbia, who sided with Milošević’s politics in 1991 and caused a suicidal explosion in a JNA weapons depot near Bjelovar, resulting in the death of 11 Croatian defenders – that no agreement can be reached on this issue because “in every civil war there are as many truths as there are sides.”
The following day, our Defense Minister Damir Krstičević reacted by saying:
“Today I want to say that for us in Croatia there is only one truth. There was no civil war in Croatia, there was a huge, brutal, Greater Serbian aggression. Croatia waged a just, defensive, Homeland War for peace, for freedom. That war was fought on the territory of the Republic of Croatia, in that war we defended ourselves, won, and achieved peace and freedom.”
Vulin threw out a new retort on Tuesday, asking Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković to explain how certain areas of Croatia remained empty because, as he claims, Serbs were expelled from them “before the knife and the pit.”
“If Serbs became aggressors by the very act of being born in Croatia, then there really was aggression. If it was not a civil war, why did 250,000 citizens of Croatia of Serbian nationality leave Croatia before the knife and the pit?” Vulin asked through Belgrade media.
