We announce the most important events in Croatia for Wednesday, October 4:

ZAGREB – Continuation of the session of the Croatian Parliament (9:30 AM, St. Mark’s Square 6). Parliamentary representatives begin the plenary working week with a vote on the discussed items. The President of the HDZ Club of Representatives, Branko Bačić, stated to reporters that they are very close to an agreement with the SDP regarding the election of constitutional judges and members of the investigative committee for Agrokor, but since the agreement has not yet been defined, there will be no voting on this matter in the Parliament on Wednesday; it is planned for Friday.

ZAGREB – Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović will meet with the European Commission’s Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos. The meeting will discuss, among other things, Croatia’s entry into the Schengen area. Božinović and Avramopoulos will also exchange views on migration policy and the asylum system, as well as other issues important for the functioning of the Schengen area. They will consider measures to improve the security of European borders and other security issues of importance to the European Union. After the meeting, media statements are scheduled (at 2:20 PM, Ministry of the Interior headquarters, Vukovar Street 33. Journalists should arrive for security checks by 2 PM).

ZAGREB – Croatian county heads will gather at the meeting of the Croatian Association of Counties to discuss current issues of interest to local and regional self-government. The main topics of the meeting will be related to the financing of local and regional self-government units, the direction of reform, and the management of state property. The county heads will discuss these topics with the Minister of State Property Goran Marić, State Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Darko Nekić, Head of the Sector for Local and Regional Self-Government Anita Markić, and Assistant Minister of Finance and Chief State Treasurer Ivana Jakir-Bajo (12 PM, premises of the Association, Savska 41/XVI, media statements are scheduled for 2 PM).

ZAGREB – A charity gala evening for the demining of Croatia titled “An Evening for Safe Steps” (7:30 PM, in the Crystal Hall of The Westin Zagreb, Izidora Kršnjavog 1). The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Croatia, which organizes the charity evening for the 16th consecutive year, announced that this event will once again gather the Croatian political, diplomatic, and business elite with the aim of demining the remaining mine-suspected areas in Croatia. The funds raised at this year’s evening will be allocated for demining Zadar County. At the ceremonial opening of the dinner, attendees will be addressed by the Minister of the Interior and envoy of the Prime Minister Davor Božinović, Deputy Mayor of Zagreb Jelena Pavičić Vukičević, Zadar County Prefect Božidar Longin, and the U.S. Ambassador to Croatia Julieta Valls Noyes. Numerous members of Parliament and representatives of major Croatian and international companies, public authorities, international organizations, and diplomatic bodies will also participate in the evening.

RIJEKA – This year’s Children’s Week, which is celebrated in Croatia in the first week of October, will be particularly marked by the Ombudswoman for Children Ivana Milas Klarić with a celebration of the 10th anniversary of her regional office in Rijeka. On this occasion, she will hold a panel discussion titled “Ten Years of the Rijeka Office of the Ombudswoman for Children – Achievements and Challenges” (10 AM, City Hall, Korzo 16). The celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Rijeka office will also be an opportunity for the Ombudswoman to meet and informally socialize with children and adults, after the panel, with a special birthday cake, states the Office of the Ombudswoman for Children.

ECONOMY:

ZAGREB – At the conference “Croatia We Need – Agriculture for the 21st Century,” organized by the Agrobiz portal, challenges and the future of agriculture in Croatia will be discussed. Among other things, the discussion will focus on how to encourage modern and sustainable production with better use of generous EU funds, the introduction of new technologies and crop insurance, possible and feasible ways of uniting farmers, and what needs to be done to better connect the two key economic sectors – food production and tourism. The conference will also feature Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Minister of Agriculture Tomislav Tolušić (9:30 AM, Hotel Esplanade, Mihanovićeva 1).

ZAGREB – The first conference on year-round tourism “Can Croatian Tourism Be 365 Days?” organized by Julius Rose will question the possibilities, desires, and views on what is needed for tourism in Croatia to operate year-round. The conference will gather numerous domestic and regional tourism experts who will also present examples of year-round tourism in countries such as Austria, Slovenia, and Hungary (9:00 AM, Sheraton Hotel, Kneza Borne 2).

ZAGREB – The Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development will present the initiative “Diversity Policy” and on this occasion, representatives of 23 Croatian companies will sign the “Diversity Charter.” The Diversity Charter is an initiative launched in 16 European Union countries, funded by the European Commission. The Diversity Charter Croatia was developed as part of a joint project of the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development with partners from Slovenia and Romania (11:00 AM, Hotel Esplanade, Mihanovićeva 1).
