Three hotels of the Valamar Riviera group have received this year’s world awards “World Travel Award” for the best in Croatia in four different categories, making them the most awarded among hotels in national categories, while data on the awardees shows that there are no Croatian representatives among the leading hotels in Europe.
The “World Travel Awards” are awarded by the organization of the same name based in London, and this year these prestigious awards, which are referred to as the ‘Oscars of Tourism’ in global tourism, have been awarded for the 24th consecutive year, recognizing global, regional, and national achievements in the tourism sector. The awards cover a wide range of categories, from various hotel facilities, car rentals to airlines and others, and the winners are chosen by votes from professionals in the tourism industry, by continents and individual countries.

Among the awards, those for Europe and its individual countries were particularly highlighted, which were ceremoniously awarded at the end of last week in St. Petersburg, Russia, but data from the website where the winners are published by individual areas and categories show that among the overall winners at the European level this year, no one from Croatia received a “World Travel Award”.
This places Croatia among the few countries in the Mediterranean ‘basin’ that did not receive an award in any category at the European level, unlike Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, and others whose facilities, hotels, resorts, service providers, and others received at least one, and some even several of these awards for the best or leading in Europe.
