Elon Musk’s New Vision: Reach Any Place on Earth Within an Hour

Entrepreneur and visionary Elon Musk has raised the bar once again. He intends to build a rocket space-aircraft named “BFR,” which would allow people to travel anywhere on Earth in just one hour.

If this concept of future travel comes to life, it would take only half an hour to travel from New York to Shanghai. This is the guiding idea of Musk’s company Space Exploration Technologies Corp., whose engineers are expected to fulfill humanity’s dream, not only to travel to other planets but also to fly quickly and easily from one side of the Earth to the other with space-aircraft.

– If we plan to go to Mars, why shouldn’t we conquer Earth as well?, Musk said at the 68th astronaut convention held in Adelaide, Australia.

While speaking to the audience, an animation of a group of passengers boarding a ferry, then onto a launch pad in the ocean near New York, played behind him, where everyone boarded the BFR. Then, people from the future landed in Shanghai in just half an hour.

– Fly to any place on Earth in less than an hour. The cost should be the same as the cost of an airplane ticket, I forgot to mention that, Musk wrote on his Instagram profile after leaving the convention in Australia.

The money needed for the development of the BFR will be sourced from contracts Musk has signed with many satellite owners orbiting the Earth. The BFR is a space-aircraft whose primary mission is to be capable of transporting equipment, crews, and parts for satellites into orbit, but Musk says it also has 40 cabins that can transport 100 people.

Musk’s ambitions to send a commercial spacecraft to Mars have excited all those who dream of colonizing the red planet. The Red Dragon, as the spacecraft Musk wants to send to Mars is called, has not yet fulfilled Musk’s promise that the spacecraft of that name would land on Mars by 2017, despite optimism. The problem lies in insufficient finances, although Musk’s total assets are estimated at $21 billion. Now the goal is to send the BFR to Mars, but only by 2022, which, looking at the history of space exploration, is indeed a fascinatingly short timeframe.

In order to enable people to settle other planets, Musk founded SpaceX in 2002, which has since achieved concrete results. SpaceX invented and constructed the Falcon 9 rocket, which is used by NASA, the U.S. military, and for commercial purposes (for satellite maintenance). For the launch of Falcon 9, SpaceX spent about $62 million. To date, SpaceX has celebrated 13 successful launches, which differ from other rocket launches into space in that the launch base, the first part that the rocket discards during launch into space, is retrieved from the sea by drone ships, allowing that base to be reused.

The BFR is expected to replace the Falcon 9, which currently serves for satellite transport.
