Volvo has introduced its first model in the compact SUV class, namely the XC40 version. Entering this segment is not a coincidence. It is the fastest-growing part of the automotive industry, with sales having increased by nearly an incredible 300 percent in just a few years. Volvo, of course, wants its share of the pie in the premium segment, which is already quite rich with models like the Mercedes GLA, Audi A3, or BMW X1.

The Volvo XC40 has its advantages up its sleeve, starting with the design, which is not surprising as it is largely based on the existing larger SUVs from the Swedish manufacturer, the XC60 and XC90. Given that both mentioned models have performed well in the market, it was logical to play the same card.
Emphasis on Safety
The XC40 officially originated from the Concept 40 that paraded at various auto shows. However, unlike the concept, conventional solutions have been applied to the production model, such as classic side mirrors (instead of the cameras that were installed on the concept) or traditional door handles, which were not the case with the concept.
When it comes to the vehicle’s interior, customers will likely be able to choose between analog and digital instruments, although an attractive digital form has been presented initially. The central screen is positioned vertically. Details about the equipment are not yet known as vehicle production is planned for November this year, but as always with Volvo, the emphasis will be on safety.

However, there is also a diesel option
The choice of engines for the launch of the new model is also interesting. For now, one diesel and one gasoline engine have been announced. Although it has announced the near phasing out of diesel engines, Volvo has still offered this alternative for sale, specifically the D4 model, which develops a maximum power of 190 horsepower. The gasoline engine is the T5 model, which has as much as 247 horsepower. Both engines are four-cylinder, but it is certain that in the future, the XC40 will also have three-cylinder engines, which will be combined with electric ones. Both models on offer have exclusively all-wheel drive, as well as an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, given that the competition also offers drives on just one axle and manual transmissions, it is almost certain that Volvo will quickly adapt to market demands. The price is not yet known, but for more affordable models, it will be necessary to wait for the introduction of weaker engines and front-wheel drive.
