The Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) supports the proposal for the establishment of a parliamentary investigative committee on Agrokor because, they emphasize, this company is one of the pillars of the Croatian economy and citizens must know why Agrokor is where it is.

“The parliamentary investigative committee is a good proposal and we will certainly support it. Agrokor is one of the pillars of the Croatian economy and citizens must know why Agrokor is where it is, and especially they must know what will happen to it. Secondly, the government’s communication regarding Agrokor, just like the communication from the extraordinary administration, is so sparse and non-transparent that the committee seems to be the only way for citizens to get the right information,” said IDS president Boris Miletić for Hina, adding that parliamentary investigative committees are a common practice in developed democracies.
“As for Mr. Ivica Todorić, I am afraid that his statements no longer carry much weight,” Miletić said.

The establishment of the investigative committee for Agrokor was proposed by 18 SDP representatives in April, after the adoption of the Law on the Procedure of Extraordinary Administration in Companies of Systemic Importance for the Republic of Croatia, better known as “lex Agrokor”. SDP president Davor Bernardić assessed on Saturday that the serious accusations made by Ivica Todorić against the government are yet another confirmation of the importance of the parliamentary investigative committee on Agrokor.

On his blog on Sunday, Ivica Todorić, who accuses the government of making political moves to gain control over the group, supported the establishment of the parliamentary committee and called on leaders of parliamentary political parties to reach a consensus on this matter.
