Lavrov: Trump and Kim Like Kids in Kindergarten

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov compared the verbal war between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to a fight between children in kindergarten.

In recent days, there has been a not-so-diplomatic communication between Trump and Kim, after the American president referred to the North Korean leader as a “rocket man” on a suicide mission in a speech before the UN General Assembly, threatening to completely destroy the country.

Kim quickly retaliated, calling Trump a “mentally deranged person,” a “dotard,” and threatened that he would “pay dearly for the threats made against his country.”

Trump did not hold back, responding on Friday by calling Kim a “madman” who will be tested like never before.

Meanwhile, the United States has tightened sanctions against North Korea, while Pyongyang threatens new hydrogen bomb testing.

On Friday evening, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called for the situation to calm down. Speaking to reporters at the UN, where world leaders gathered for the annual General Assembly, he stated that a pause is needed to “cool down heated heads.”

“Yes, it is unacceptable to silently watch North Korea’s nuclear military adventures, but it is also unacceptable to start a war on the Korean Peninsula,” he said.

He called for a political process, which he says is a key part of the United Nations Security Council process.

“Together with China, we will continue to strive for a reasonable approach, not an emotional one like when children fight in kindergarten and no one can stop them,” Lavrov said.
