Vukovar Public Bicycle System Also in Vukovar

Vukovar has become the fifteenth and easternmost city in Croatia to introduce the Nextbike public bicycle system, and after the presentation of a free mobile application for quick and easy bicycle rentals, attendees participated in a trial ride from the city center to Borovo Naselje, Nextbike announced on Wednesday.

Vukovar’s mayor, Ivan Penava, expressed satisfaction as Vukovar has gained cycling paths in recent years, one of the most important being the one connecting the center of Vukovar and Borovo Naselje. He emphasized that the people of Vukovar have a culture of cycling, and this project will be a step towards improving the quality of life, and it will certainly be welcomed by citizens and tourists who see Vukovar as a central destination in the Croatian Danube region.

Nextbike stated that Vukovar needs future-oriented projects, and the people of Vukovar, as well as all citizens of Croatia, require continuous investment in sustainable construction, education systems, employment, and sustainable mobility that connects all segments of society.

The announcement states that this is the greenest, healthiest, and most cost-effective form of public urban transport, fully in line with European Union directives, as well as the vision and plans of the City of Vukovar related to sustainable development. It adds that Nextbike, in collaboration with partners, organizes several cycling schools each year and encourages cities to improve cycling infrastructure.

– Public bicycles are becoming an increasingly popular mode of transport in 14 Croatian cities and municipalities. The Nextbike system in Croatia has 20,500 registered users and significantly reduces harmful gas emissions, traffic congestion, noise, and parking problems, while cycling positively impacts psychophysical health. The people of Vukovar can now combine trains, buses, and public bicycles, allowing them to travel faster, healthier, and more affordably, while simultaneously protecting the environment in which we live, the announcement states.
