At the Croatian Employers’ Association (HUP), a Coordination of Wholesalers has been established, bringing together key representatives from the wholesale trade of medicines and medical products. Its aim is to address the problems and challenges faced by the healthcare system, improve the conditions and methods of operation, and enhance mutual connections and organization within this sector, HUP announced on Wednesday.
The Coordination will primarily focus on resolving the significant total debts in healthcare, which already exceed 2.7 billion kuna, primarily concerning the debts of hospitals to wholesalers, which have extended payment deadlines to as much as 900 days, thus exceeding the legal deadlines by more than ten times, HUP emphasizes.

“As the main suppliers of medicines in the chain, wholesalers strive to serve the entire healthcare sector and society, but the additional costs they incur to ensure the system functions smoothly are becoming increasingly unsustainable every day, thereby jeopardizing the future of end users, i.e., patients, given that we are threatened by the worst possible scenario of halting the supply of medicines to hospitals.”
Josip Matusinović from Phoenix Farmacija has been elected as the president of the Coordination, while the vice presidents are Jasminko Herceg from Medika and Radwan Joukhadar from Medical Intertrade.
HUP’s Coordination of Wholesalers will aim to highlight this and all other issues within the healthcare system and expects that their initiative will prompt responsible stakeholders, namely the Ministry of Health, to swiftly address the currently alarming situation in healthcare, the statement concludes.
