– The Civic-Liberal Alliance (GLAS) announced on Sunday that it strongly condemns the hate speech of Hvar priest Don Milog Plenković, who posted a scandalous status on his Facebook profile expressing joy at the death of Slavko Goldstein, calling him a hater of Croatia.
We call on the Croatian Bishops’ Conference, the Split-Makarska Archdiocese, and the Hvar Diocese “to publicly condemn the statements of Don Plenković and distance themselves from them, as such statements are in complete contradiction to the mission of the Catholic Church. We also demand an apology from the leadership of the Catholic Church to the citizens of Croatia, considering that we have experienced priests publicly rejoicing at someone’s death simply because they politically disagree with the deceased,” states the party’s announcement.
GLAS also states that it believes the Church, as an institution that “claims to shape the moral fabric of Croatian society and prescribe socially desirable forms of behavior for Croatian citizens, shows through its tacit support of such statements by its priests what kind of social morality would be acceptable to it.”
