The Serbian Foreign Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dačić described the enlargement process as “healing” for the European Union and assessed that the enlargement will either continue or there will be a gradual dying process of the EU.
Dačić, in an interview with Radio-Television of Serbia (RTS), commented on the statement by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker that by the end of the current EC’s mandate in 2019, the conditions for the admission of Western Balkan countries to EU membership will not be met, pointing out that “this is nothing different” compared to Juncker’s earlier statements.

– The enlargement of the EU is a healing process for the survival of the EU, assessed Dačić in the interview for RTS.
Dačić announced the arrival of the EU’s chief diplomat Federica Mogherini in Belgrade in October and the beginning of a “more serious dialogue on Chapter 31” regarding foreign, security, and defense policy, as it is Serbia’s obligation to align its foreign and defense policy with the Union before entering the EU.
The Serbian Foreign Minister hopes that before Serbia’s entry into the EU, the conflict between Russia and the USA will be resolved, assessing that “when elephants fight, it is usually the grass that suffers.”
– If the conflict with Russia is not resolved by the time we enter the EU, which we do not know when it will be, then we are all in big trouble, including the EU itself. That is why I said we need to look after our interests because everything is changeable, Dačić stated.
The Serbian Foreign Minister also assessed for RTS that “there is no reaction from the international community and Brussels to the nationalist outbursts in Croatia.”
Dačić told RTS that “there is a wall of silence” and that he “is not happy about it,” emphasizing that he is “sure that the reaction would not be absent if such outbursts were happening in Belgrade.”
Speaking in the context of “continued pressures on the Serbian people,” he pointed out that “there were 580,000 Serbs living in Croatia, and today there are less than 200,000, in Sarajevo there were about 150,000, in Priština about 40,000.”

– We cannot say that this data no longer exists, Dačić told RTS, recalling the “anger of the international community” after he reacted sharply to demands for the abolition of the UN Mission (UNMIK) in Kosovo.
– So what should we do? Applaud and watch as other countries recognize Kosovo?” Dačić asked.
