Beljak: Plenković wants us to annul the decision to exit arbitration, and that won’t happen

The president of the opposition Croatian Peasant Party HSS, Krešo Beljak, stated before the meeting of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković with the leaders of parliamentary parties that the Prime Minister likely wants a consensus on annulling the decision to exit arbitration.

– The decision of the arbitration court is not unilateral; we cannot say that Slovenia was favored in this, it is a compromise decision. And it seems to me that the problem is that the Parliament made the decision to exit arbitration, and now Plenković wants us to annul that decision in Parliament, Beljak told reporters. “And that won’t happen,” he added.

HSS does not want to be a fig leaf for the incompetent Croatian foreign policy that does not know how to position itself towards Slovenia, nor towards Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Beljak continued. “They have gained the trust of the citizens to work, and if they do not know how to do that, they should call for elections.”

“The horrifying wire on the border”

He personally believes that there should be no talks with Slovenia until they “remove that horrifying wire on the border that serves no purpose other than entangling animals,” stating that such a move should be the first act of good neighborliness.

Commenting on the session of the Slovenian parliamentary defense committee, Beljak said it was convened by “a kid that no one in Slovenia takes seriously.”

The opposition leader, Davor Bernardić from the SDP, stated that they came to the meeting to be informed by the Prime Minister about the state of relations with Slovenia. “I am glad that we have reached the point where, nine months ago, I called for talks on resolving key Croatian issues, and I am glad that the Prime Minister and HDZ recognized that important matters in Croatia must be resolved by consensus,” Bernardić said before the meeting.
