HŽ Passenger Transport and Altpro Contract a Deal Worth 11.9 Million Kuna

HŽ Passenger Transport and the company Altpro signed a contract on Monday for the procurement of equipment for the automatic stop system in 48 traction vehicles owned by HŽ Passenger Transport, worth 11.9 million kuna, which will enhance the safety of railway traffic.

The contract is financed by a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), as part of the sustainable development project of the Croatian railway system. The automatic stop system alerts the driver or automatically brakes the train, depending on the speed data collected while passing signal markers on the track, making travel safer.

– With the implementation of this contract, all vehicles of HŽ Passenger Transport will be equipped with automatic stop devices, significantly raising the level of safety in railway traffic. It is good that all the work will be done by domestic companies, said Željko Ukić, director of HŽ Passenger Transport, at the contract signing.

Altpro’s director Zvonimir Viduka emphasized that the automatic stop systems from this manufacturer have been installed by some of the most renowned global railway vehicle manufacturers such as Alstom and CAF, as well as Croatian companies Končar and Gredelj in the last six years.

He announced that Altpro plans to offer the automatic stop system soon in Germany, Austria, and Romania, and is already marketing its technological systems in 47 countries. Anticipating great interest in automatic stop systems, the company is building a development and innovation center for vehicles near Zagreb, where it will develop and produce automatic stop systems and their applications for the global market. The new center plans to employ 75 staff.

– It is not easy to win a tender organized by the IBRD. This shows that our companies stand alongside leading global companies in this sector, said Nikolina Brnjac, State Secretary for Transport at the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
