Yippee ki-yay! in Florida: More than 53,000 people ready to shoot at Irma

The sheriff from Florida has urged residents not to shoot firearms at Hurricane Irma, a warning he was forced to issue after tens of thousands of people expressed their willingness to confront the weather disaster in such a bizarre manner.

More than 53,000 people have signed up on Facebook as volunteers under the title “Shoot at Hurricane Irma,” while another 25,000 have expressed their intention to join the action.

“Let’s show Irma that we will be the first to pull the trigger,” wrote the organizers.

“Nothing in the world can break the spirit of Florida” and “Shooters, don’t give up,” are some of the messages from shooters ready to show their teeth to Irma.

“Crazy idea” The deadly superstorm that swept through the Caribbean on its six-day march has already reached the Florida Keys on Sunday and will spread to Florida, where authorities have called for the evacuation of more than six million people, nearly a third of the state’s population.

Ryon Edwards, one of the creators of the petition “Let’s Shoot at Hurricane Irma,” told the BBC: “A combination of stress and boredom prompted me to take such action.”

“Such a large response is a complete surprise to me. I never dreamed it could become some kind of crazy idea bigger than myself.”

His call forced the Pasco County sheriff’s office to issue a statement on Twitter urging gun owners not to shoot at the storm.

“To be clear, DO NOT SHOOT firearms at Irma,” wrote the sheriff.
