Porsche is currently in an excellent financial position, but that was not the case at the beginning of this century when even the darkest scenarios were considered. Incredible as it may seem, one model turned the entire situation around, and perhaps even the history of the company from Zuffenhausen. This is the Cayenne, which appeared at the end of 2002. It was Porsche’s messiah, although true enthusiasts would say that it is, in fact, a sacrilege for Porsche because it is an SUV model that borrowed many elements from existing Volkswagen models.
Success is measured only in numbers, and the indicator here is clear: the Cayenne is an absolute hit in the market. Significant Changes in the Interior
When it comes to design, the biggest change is at the rear of the vehicle, which is based on solutions we became familiar with from the Panamera. These are, above all, the connected rear lights that look very attractive. The interior has undergone significant changes with a central console that unites analog and digital instruments, and there is also the inevitable multimedia screen, in this case, 12.3 inches.
The Cayenne started its career exclusively with gasoline engines, but the biggest leap was made when diesel engines were introduced. Today, the word ‘diesel’ is not the most beloved topic in the Volkswagen group, which includes Porsche.
Additionally, recent weeks have seen information released that the sale of diesel Cayennes is being banned in Switzerland. Because of this, there was no discussion about diesels at the premiere, and no information was released on whether they would be included in the new Cayenne.
Turbo and Hybrid Models Coming
For now, it is known that the new model will initially come with two gasoline engines, the base version with a three-liter V6 turbo engine producing 340 horsepower (acceleration to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 245 km/h). The stronger version is named S; it features a 2.9-liter bi-turbo engine that develops 440 horsepower (acceleration to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 265 km/h).
As expected, Turbo, GTS, and of course, hybrid versions have already been announced. Prices are also known in Germany, where the base version of the Cayenne will start at 74,900 euros, including tax, after the upcoming car show in Frankfurt.
