At the Special Hospital for Chronic Diseases in Novi Marof, construction began on Friday, on the Day of Varaždin County, for an investment worth 51.5 million kuna, which will include the construction of a new connecting facility and road between two palliative care departments, energy renovation of the buildings of Department II and Department III, and equipping the Service for Extended Treatment and Palliative Care with modern medical equipment.
Varaždin County Prefect Radimir Čačić emphasized the economic importance of the hospital in Novi Marof for Varaždin County and welcomed the project, highlighting that it involves an amount of 51.5 million kuna in non-repayable funds from the European Regional Development Fund.

Europe has recognized Novi Marof and the people who have been working on this for years; when someone stands out as one of only four projects in Croatian healthcare receiving European funds, it speaks for itself, said Čačić. He announced that Varaždin County will soon receive funds for another healthcare project, which is the Spinal Center of the hospital in Varaždinske Toplice.
Nenad Kudelić, director of the General Hospital Varaždin, which includes the hospital in Novi Marof, stated that the service for extended treatment and palliative care in Novi Marof accepts patients from the entire central and northwestern Croatia, specifically from eight counties.
Until now, the infrastructural, technical, and human capacities for providing palliative care have been inadequate and insufficient, but with the completion of this project, the infrastructural, technical, and human capacities for providing quality palliative care will increase, emphasized Kudelić.
